Show and Tell - Our Doodles' Trees!

This morning we did something very special: we went to a park in the suburbs and watched them plant trees in honor of our Doodles (thanks to the generosity of the wonderful ladies on the nest). Here are some photos and details of the planting.

When we arrived (at the absolutely gorgeous park), we saw them digging the hole and one unplanted tree waiting beside it...

We learned after checking with the park employees that this was where our tree would be planted...only they told us it was trees, plural! The nest got a tree for each Doodle - tulip trees, which we are told will grow as tall as the surrounding oak trees and will bloom flowers! We watched them plant each tree...

And they let me shovel some of the dirt onto one of them (please disregard my gargantuan behind)...

The most amazing thing though, was that while we waited for one of the trees to be planted, a butterfly came to one and flitted through it for several minutes. Knowing that butterflies are symbols of lost babies, I couldn't help but wonder if this was the Doodles letting us know that they were with us and loved their trees (I had already credited them with clearing the rain just in time for the tree planting). We were able to capture a few blurry images of our winged friend.

I'm so grateful for this tiny symbol of the fleeting yet beautiful lives of our Doodles on this day. And even more grateful for these perfect memorial trees, in such a picturesque setting, which we hope to visit for years to come.

The workers who planted the trees were so kind, and a woman came by as they were being planted and thanked us for planting them. We told her they were contributed by friends in memory of our twin babies that we had lost. Her eyes filled with tears and she told us she was sorry. Then she told us she had a twin sister who she had lost at the age of 25. As she walked away she crossed herself, and said something to the men planting the tree. I love that our Doodles and their trees were able to touch a stranger as well.

And here they both are, after planting (I'm crouched next to one in the foreground, the other is in the background and a bit to the left):

Thank you again to the wonderful women of the nest, from the bottom of our hearts. And thanks to everyone else for visiting!

A very special day indeed. The trees are beautiful. I'm not a real green thumb so I had no idea there were such things as tulip trees. I love tulips. You will have to post more pictures when the flowers start blooming. I love that the butterfly stopped by too. =)

A lovely idea.
We plant trees here in England in 'Gardens of Rememberance' after someone has left us, and each one has a plaque depicting exactly who the tree is dedicated too.

That sounds like such an amazing way to remember the babies. The butterfly coming by was definitely a sign. And the story of the twin you spoke to that just happened by was very touching.
