5 Years

On Friday, DH and I celebrated our fifth anniversary! I can't believe we've been married that long, but then some days it seems SO long ago that it makes sense.

We spent the weekend at a hotel as a mini getaway. We had dinner, a delicious chocolate buffet, I got a prenatal massage and we saw the movie "Up" (spoilers below). I wasn't able to enjoy the weekend as much as I should have though because the anxiety was in overdrive; it's getting worse as we get closer to the end of this pregnancy. It just felt wrong to me to be enjoying myself and to feel so content - it's like my talisman for keeping this pregnancy and keeping Toodle safe has been to hide in my house doing nothing and as soon as I strayed from that I felt like I wasn't keeping up my end of the bargain and was doing something too risky, even though I wasn't on my feet anymore than usual. Plus, I worried that the prenatal massage or the noise of the movie was going to have some sort of adverse effect (I did have more contractions than usual last night but everything is fine). The prenatal massage was divine - nothing scary at all and so relaxing. I was relieved to come home to our kitties and our own bed though. Just like a Mastercard commercial, we could list the price of the weekend away, but at the end, what's priceless was realizing that we're happiest at home, even if we did have a great pretend getaway.

As far as the movie (here be spoilers) - do NOT see this movie if you are in at all of a fragile emotional state. It is one of the saddest movies I've ever seen and quite unexpectedly depressing for Disney. Don't get me wrong, it's also a phenomenal movie, but it's hard to enjoy a movie when you spend 50% of it crying...and I don't mean tearing up, I mean crying. Within the first 15 minutes of the movie the main character and his wife try to have children, fail (unclear whether they suffer pregnancy loss, receive an infertility diagnosis or perhaps both - I thought the former, DH the latter) and the wife dies. Then the rest of the movie is the poor widower trying to fulfill a promise to his wife, with many flashbacks and remembrances including looking through a scrapbook she had made of her life. I'm sure most kids don't really pick up or care much about the emotional aspects, but for adults it was brutal.

As I noted in last year's anniversary post, we get a picture every anniversary, so here's the pic for year 5 (via the trusty timer) in our hotel room.

I also took a belly pic since I was all fancy for dinner, close enough to 36 weeks. Probably my last belly picture too.

I have an appointment in the morning so I'll update afterwards. Fingers crossed all is still ok.

Congratulations on 5 years of marriage! You look so radiant in your pictures. We saw UP this weekend too and it was, as you said, amazingly depressing for a Pixar movie. Anyway, I'm so excited for you in the next few weeks. Fingers crossed for an easy time!

I still can't get over how skinny our legs are, girl! You look gorgeous, btw!

About the Disne.y movie . . . sigh, I swear, it IS true that nearly every Disney movie involves killing off the mother or otherwise making her absent?!

You look SO beautiful, you are such a gorgeous couple. :-)

One more thought . . . if you are feeling safer and less anxious at home, perhaps have a small treat each of these remaining weeks at your house? (I am thinking a special meal cooked/served at your place, a pedicure performed at your place, a movie night with your girlfriends at your place, and so on)/

XOXO!

Happy anniverary!! Great pictures!

Dh & I also saw "Up" this weekend. I'd been alerted to the plotline by Pamela Jeanne in her blog, but even so, I bawled my eyes out through the opening sequence. Dh & I both loved it, though.

Congratulations on Five Years! Hotel, chocolate and massage--sounds divine!

I saw "Up" with my son. And yes, he looked over at me and said "Mom, you are such a softie!" He totally did not get the emotional stuff. Today, telling my husband about the movie--I cried again! It's good, but you are right, its sad too.

Love the belly photo (and this is from someone that doesn't like those).

It's sooo close!! Toodle's going to be so lucky!

We saw Up yesterday, and I cried through the first 20 minutes and wept sporadically throughout the movie. Bella I think was most preturbed that the dogs (which she clapped at upon their arrival) turned out to be rather nasty before of course undergoing Pixar-ification and becoming cute and friendly at the end. So she cried too. But refused to leave. When I asked her afterwards if she thought it was too sad or too scary, she replied, "I thought it was perfect."

I'm impressed that your able to relax at this point! I think I'd be hiding in my closet. Thinking of you -- and happy anniversary!

Happy Anniversary!!!

I took my crew to see that movie and I CRIED, or rather sobbed, through the whole thing! IT was totally emotional for me. But I did think it was a great love story!

My kids liked the movie about "the house that goes into the sky." They have no idea the real depth of it!
