I know that normally I only post these types of things for babyloss but a dear friend from my boards and her family could use some positive thoughts - her niece was struck by a car earlier this week and is in serious condition with many injuries. They've created a blog for her, which can be found here - if you could spare a thought or kind word for Kayla it would be wonderful.
In other news, remember when I was so paranoid about piggy flu? My brother has just tested positive for it. He's a teacher so likely often exposed, and had a very high fever earlier this week. Luckily he is feeling better, on meds and SIL and nephew don't appear to have any symptoms, but it's still scary. And of course, selfishly, my paranoia has kicked into high gear and I'm now laying down the edict that not only don't I want any of them visiting in the hospital if Toodle is born next week (nor for at least a couple weeks thereafter) but my mom will also be restricted if she sees them...I'm already so scared about Toodle the last thing I need is for him to catch swine flu the week after he's born. Operation Toodle Quarantine to commence...

I will praying for Kayla and her family.
On the swine flu I don't think you can be too careful. I hope no one else in your brothers family contracts it.
I am thinking about you and toodle.
I left a message on the blog, I am certainly praying for Kayla and her family.
My mom's school just had the first confirmed case of piggy flu in our area. Not even remotely excited about that! One of my biggest fears, being a teacher...
ps---it's almost toodle time!!! I totally want the post about heading to the hospital for toodle to be titled "toodle time!"
:)
Oh my.
I hope your brother is well soon, and you can keep well away from him. Not selfish at all!
will drop by and send my positive healing thoughts to your friends daughter.

Operation Toodle Quarantine sounds like a plan. So sorry about your brother and wish the best for his recovery in addition to Kayla's.

I don't blame you for keeping Toodle completely out of harms way. Hopefully everyone else understands that you aren't WANTING to be the swine flu nazi!
I'm not an alarmist, even though I'm a physician....but I don't think you're being paranoid at all. I wholeheartedly support Operation Toodle Quaratine.
Re: tbonegrl....I love the idea for "toodle time" as the title. It's totally almost toodle time! Yay!!!!
I support Operation Toodle Quaratine. You are the mommy and you have EVERY right to decide who does or does not see your Toodle. My prayers are still with you and Toodle, but they are also going up for Kayla and her family.
Very sensible move on Operation Quarantine. Newborns need some time to build up their immunity. Plus, the Toodle has got some Puddin' wrangling to do when he grows up!
Trust your mommy instincts! Having had a baby with a serious illness they caught from a visitor (granted, he was born before he was able to get antibodies from me), I have to tell you I CRINGE when I see a newborn in Target or in pictures with dozens of visitors. Our pediatric critical care dr told us babies have no immune system before 3 months so the more limited the exposure up until that point, the better. I actually sent a lengthy email to friends/family about why we had to quarantine my son for a while...I can email it to you if you'd like (different scenario, but the tone was well received).
Definitely washing your hands ton when little one is born!!! And reducing their exposure to being handled is also very key those first couple of months.
The swine flu itself is just a regular flu, but of course you don't want little one to get ANY flu at all!
Operation Toodle Quarantine is a great idea. Further more, it would probably not be a bad idea to limit the visitors at the hospital and soon after.... Yes, most babies are OK, but there is usually no reason why MOST people can't wait a few months before seeing the baby. We were EXTREMELY strict. Granted our Bubeaner was born at 30 weeks and during cold/flu season. But if we are blessed to be parents of a newborn again, we plan on doing the same thing again.
Praying for you guys and Toodle. =)
RMH & Bubeaner
P.S. Puddin' cracks me up!
Praying for Kayla and her family.
And, hoping and praying you fly through this without a hitch and no piggies tagging along.
I will being praying for Kayla. Poor little girl.
I think your family will understand.
praying for little kayla...
and definitely think your family will understand not wanting little toodle to be exposed. even given you hadn't been through what you have, I think it would be understandable to not want to expose toodle!
hang in there.....getting close!
Poor Kayla! I will keep her in my thoughts. She's actually here at the hospital where I go to medical school. We have EXCELLENT pediatricians here, and a great pediatric ICU. She's in good hands.
First of all - you're being completely sensible about pig flu - would not be good for you OR Toodle. Second, I'm sooooo late with this, but I would love to follow your new blog - I can't find directions anymore (cuz I'm soooo late with my request :( If you're still accepting new followers, my e-mail is sgoeke@nemont.net!
Good luck tomorrow! Let's hope that Toodle's lungs are mature! Crossing fingers!
Thinking about you tonight!! I hope that Toodle's lungs give the two thumbs up tomorrow. I was going to say two lungs up, but that's way too cheesy. ;) Good luck! Try and relax and enjoy.
