Catching Up

Sorry for the hiatus; as I'm sure you can imagine, things have been hectic and we've been having some issues with Toodle gaining weight thanks to low supply of milk - adding insult to injury insofar as yet another way my body sucks (and apparently the issue is common in fertility patients).

We've received more lovely gifts from blog friends that I wanted to share:

NoSwimmers sent these goodies plus a bonus fir the kitties!!!

And sweet Martha sent Toodle some great books:
Thanks to both of them! We also received a giftcard and a Harry and David tower from other online friends but they don't have blogs to link. :(

Since Toodle's arrival I'm actually doing better emotionally and anxiety wise than I would have expected, other than the feeding hiccup. We do still miss the Doodles so much though and thinking of them can sometimes make the happiness bittersweet. I'm sure there's a post in there about that, but right now I don't have the time to write it...soon though.

Sorry to hear about the low milk supply - and you are probably not at this point - but here it is common for women to take a drug that increases milk supply (it is used for women like me who want to BF but have to work with a surro)... but, I am not sure if it is available in the US.

Joy - Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel is a marvelous book for girls, not just boys. I loved it as a kid; I bet your girls would too. I highly recommend it!

Busted - sorry to hear about the milk issues; a friend had that and they used a supplemental feeding system that involved putting a slender tube in the baby's mouth while she was feeding. She just got formula through the tube and didn't even notice that she was being fed on the sly.

So glad you like it...I didn't want the kitties to feel left out. ;)

I'm sure you'll have ups & downs, but I hope the happy moments outweigh the sad ones.

Sorry to hear about your milk supply problems, but don't let it get you too down. Fenugreek helped me, and actually beer (or brewer's yeast- yuck) can help. What's important is that your baby gets fed- even if it is formula. A lot of low supply issues can actually be be related to high anxiety, but don't for an instant let anyone make you feel guilty about not exclusively BFing. My sister and I were a formula-fed babies for similar reasons- and we ended up just fine!

Or favorite bedtime story is "The Going to Bed Book" by Sandra Boynton. I'd offer to send you the copy I had in reserve for baby gifts, but my daughter peed on our copy and I appropriated it for our collection :o)

Hey, so its true. If you do IVF, you milk supply sucks? Cause I think that's what happend to me!

My daughter had feeding issues with both her babies, 1 IVF and 1 Invitro. Drs and nurses assured her it wasn't due to the fertility drugs, but we suspected it might be. She pumped every hour and had someone else give a bottle (formula or breast milk) for about a week and this built up her supply. She also ran formula directly into the baby's mouth with a very small tube while she was nursing. Believe me, it was a lot of work and I was so proud of her for hanging in there...most would have given up. After her milk supply was built up there were no problems. Hope this works for you too. Best of luck.

Great Gifts! Goodnight Gorilla is a fave in this house. If I want to entertain them for a few, I just open the book and lay it on the floor and they are hooked :).

hey. I'm so happy to see you have a healthy baby! I was starting to get a little worried when I didn't see you on the bump recently, but then again, I've been busy with my own new little guy... FWIW, I pumped with the medela PIS and now I have too much milk. all the love and luck in the world to you and your new family! (Tuxcat)
